Isaac called the meeting to order at 10:10 a.m.

Monica Geers was moved to the first item on the agenda as she had another commitment at 11:00 a.m. Monica advised the Board that she had done extensive research regarding the “Sunset Celebration” trademark It seems that the Hilton has registered this trademark but has not fully completed all of the necessary documentation. Monica provided the Board with a packet of information regarding this topic. Isaac asked Monica to be the point person on getting the trademark registered to us as asked her to take the information to out attorney. She will then follow up with the Board.

Isaac called for the Treasurers’ report. Antonio read his report and in brief stated that CPS has a balance of $33,507.52 in the checking account and $400 in the Putnam account. The ATM has approximately $4280 currently in the machine.

Isaac called for a motion to accept the Treasurers’ report. Jan made the motion with Dave as the second. Passed unanimously.

Isaac called for the Secretaries’ report. Sabrina asked if all had read the report. Jan made a motion to accept the minutes of the last meeting. It was seconded by Antonio. Passed unanimously.

Isaac called for the PC report. Steve Kurstin was representing the PC at this meeting. He advised that Wink has resigned from the PC. The PC elected Michele as the new Chairman. When Michele is not able to attend meetings the Chair will be rotated monthly among all members of the PC. Steve read the minutes. He advised that Pat Lloyd and Sandy Guthrie want to form a partnership. Jan asks if Sandy is a performer can she become a newcomer in the craft category. PC asks the Board to define the rules that apply to this situation. Discussion takes place and it is determined that if Sandy applies with a “Additional Product” form what will her status be? Pat states that she understands that she will have to give up her grandfather and regular status should she take on a partner as defined in the Guidelines. Steve advises the Board that another member has applied to do the glass bottles also. Michele asks if Sandy should be juried before Pat moves to California. Jan makes a motion to table this item for further information regarding the situation. Seconded by Antonio. Sandy advised that she will be setting up her shop at 227 Petronia street.

Steve advises that PC will submit their minutes to the Board after each meeting.

The second item Steve brought up for PC was the artists that use lacquer to seal their drawings. It is being blown around by the wind and affecting other participants on the pier. He further states that the rules state that no aerosol spray is allowed on the pier. He suggest a “fixative” like Steve (the artist) uses is best for everyone to use.

The next item is concerning Hair Wrap openings. Can this category be opened up for the “season”? The Board says no.

Steve asks the Board for permission to hold monthly meetings instead of twice monthly. The Board gives their approval. This will change if the PC gains approval from the Board to begin jurying again.

The next item is the “1/3” rule. The PC would like to discuss this at the next general membership meeting.

A motion was made by Sabrina to accept the PC report and was seconded by Antonio. Passed unanimously.

Isaac calls for the Performers Report.

There was not a member of the committee present to make a report.

A discussion took place with members from the audience. A number of performers are feeling disenfranchised by the Board. They felt better that five of the Board members attended their last meeting. They would like a more open line of communication between the performers and the Board.

They again raised the question of amplification at the pier. They were advised by the Board that this will be brought up at the General Membership meeting on March 19th.

Steve K. advises the performers that they need to conform to this venue. He states that when he arrived here he had to sign a paper stating that he would abide by the rules and that he was sure they did also. If they don’t like the rules they have the option to go somewhere else and work. We all have to abide by the Guidelines.

Will S. states that the use of amplification was stopped many years ago because those using amps got into “wars” with each other using the volume control. So the rules were changed to only allow music for acts that did not abuse the amplification and used it only as background.

Sabrina makes a motion to accept the performers reports, seconded by Jan. Passed unanimously.

Isaac calls for the Pier Managers report.

Pete states that March 15th is the deadline for membership fee for 2003. Non-members of CPS cannot use the credit card machine for their transactions. This is a “perk” for members only.

Pete asks Will S. how to control the times performers begin their shows. He feels that they need to control themselves.

Will suggest not putting four large acts together out in the plaza. Isaac suggest a rotation system for performers to begin their shows.

It is decided that Pete, Isaac and Will S. will get together and come up with a solution.

After discussion it was suggested that the Board designate people to time the performers.

Pete advises the Board that the non-profit organization “NOW” would like to use a space at the Pier for one hour and he granted permission for them to be there on March 8th.

Annie make a motion to accept the Pier Managers report, seconded by Will S. Passed unanimously.

Isaac calls for New Business.

Joseph (silver man) was discussed. He has been given suspensions and probation twice recently and continues to disrupt the event. He is becoming a liability for CPS. He has been give the telephone number for a Doctor and must seek some kind of professional help for himself. Joseph asks why he cannot use an amp? Isaac says he abused the amp and no longer has that privilege.

Will suggest Joseph go to the care center since it is free. He states he will take him there today. The Board decided he may continue to participate in Sunset if he has an appointment card for the Doctor and he follows through with counseling.

Rick states that they (Rick and Jan) accept their suspension. He also states that the letter they wrote to the Board stating that they wanted to separate the performers from CPS was only written to make the Board take the Performers seriously. Isaac states that the suspension given to them was for them using their amp when they were told they could not. From now on it will be put in writing to the performers.

All children who come to perform at Sunset must be supervised by an adult. Children will not be allowed to use fire or knives in their acts.

Annie speaks about “Break into Spring”, our up coming special event. She wants to know if we can use the police officer to check ID’s. The Board says yes. She states we need to notify Pepe’s that we will be having a liquor set up on that day. Steve K. asks “will the “”0”” key be given to volunteers”? Per night of volunteering “0” key is allowed.

Motion to adjourn by Sabrina, seconded by Jan. Passed Meeting was adjourned at 12:00 p.m.
