• Robert Bryce does copper mesmerizers that create illusions
when
hung and spinning in the wind. He also does flame art on copper. The
mesmerizers were voted on and approved after watching one made
and the flame art will have to be home juried as he was not allowed
to set up his torches and such at the park. He will be working in his
fifth wheel studio all week at Venture Out and would like us to do a
home jury trip up there. He has not yet been notified of the approval.
• Joanne Deck returned with her sarongs in a bottle and
thought it
appears that she has tried to be somewhat more creative by painting
(with stencil) on some of the fabrics, our feeling is that it is still not
creative enough. She also wants a home jury because she didn't bring
the paints because they are to messy. We withheld voting and a
home jury because our feeling is that she will need to bring the
paints and do a demonstration at the park rather than a home jury.
She was told only that we would get back to here on the home jury
and pending decision.
• Mike Leffler applied with his hand painted crystal glass
nail files that
he has manufactured in the Czech Republic and that he paints a very
small figure or ribbon or palm tree on the handle portion. We
watched his painting of the item and voted afterward to disapprove
his product as our feeling is that his creative portion is way too small
and people would really just be buying the nail file not his art work.
He was also told we would be in touch but has not yet been notified.
• Megan Jacob applied as a new artist with tow products.
Firstly we
watched her make her "hippie bands" which are a headband type
thing with artificial flower parts and sometimes shells or feathers on
them. The bands are made with either leather string or mostly a pre
made purchased elastic headband she then attaches the flower
pieces feathers or shell and such with a hot glue gun. She packages
these on a card with a picture of her in various yoga, or dance poses.
On the back are a brief bio and a peace message and info about her
website. She has sold these on the website is.com. She has sold these
on her website and in Hawaii and Venice Beach. She also however
makes homemade hoola hoops and in the past has sold her hippie
bands and hoops together and part of her selling appeal is that she is
doing the hoola hoop thing while selling items and in the same spot.
Our concern is that firstly there is not enough room in our artist spots
for her to display the hippie bands and promote as well the hoola
hooping. So Jeffrey called her to tell her that we are waiting to do a
home jury on the hoola hoops (as she makes them in her bathroom
tub) until we discuss some of the issues with the board. So also no
vote was made on the hippie bands either.
• The quasi new application is that Richard Vetrone appeared
with
Tripp Vetrone (the Keys Nuts guy) to do a new application for peanut
brittle which they demonstrated. It took about a half hour to make
and they made it all with fresh ingredients from sealed bottles and
sugar and salt. We have not voted on this product as we wanted to
discuss this also as our feeling is that they are trying to do an end
around to get the nuts back to the pier that was disapproved last
month. So no vote and no notification yet.
• Frederick Boughton came to protest his denial from last
july on his
photograph calendars of "Keys images" and such. He was told that
we needed to research the old decision first, though he was trying
hard to get us to look at it as anew. He was told that we would do
some research and get back to him. Motion to approve Will and 2nd
