Board Minutes for April 6, 2011

Gato Building 10:00 am

Meeting called to order at 10:05

  1. Green Flash Marketing and committee motion to table by Will, 2nd by Lee Anne.

  2. Summer Solstice. Motion to have 4 events per year and on site with alcohol. Checking into separate rider for these events. Christine, 2nd by Will.

  3. List Foolsfest as CPS event. Motion by Don, 2nd by Lee Anne.

  4. Left over donations from Foolsfest to be used for Conch Republic Street Fair.

  5. Frank Piku: Told that he is allowed to work with one helper. Explained the S.O.P. and was told the membership voted on “no hot oil” to be allowed on the pier as of City sighing new S.O.P’s this past January. Frank wanting a partner will be a new entity and will be going against the S.O.P’s.

  6. Free Night for Joyce Straton, she paid setup fee for Foolsfest and did face painting which brought in $65.00. Motioned by Don, 2nd by Lee Anne.

  7. Sarongs in a bottle, Joanne Deck was sent home. Letter from Jeff regarding this issue.

  1. Approval of agenda motion by Christine, 2nd by Lee Anne

  2. Reports:

and, Harriete. Five new applicants and one add on partner were in attendance. However the add on partner was not prepared to demonstrate their craft by the new partner so much to their chagrin they will have to return.

  1. Pete Davidson was unanimously approved for his wood carvings of island found dead wood mahogany, that he hand carves into conch shells and uses all natural ingredients- no chemicals- just wax as a finish.

  2. Nancy Botts was also unanimously approved for her mosaic work. Mostly stained glass from recycling that she affixes to various glass jars and such to make mosaics which range from candle holders, lanterns to windows and door sidelights. She then grouts them with colored grout and the finished products are beautiful and what we feel would be a crafty art needed at the pier.

  3. Fred and C.J. Groul were unanimously approved for their matted photography from mostly Key West scenes and houses. C.J. is well known in town and has a good reputation and professionalism that we feel would be wonderful at the pier. She has her work on display at the airport as well affiliated with Guild Hall. And has a website. She was told however that we would have to check out the cap on photography and that would be the only possible problem other than providing a disc of her work and to see her camera.

  4. Joe and Ozlem Berg demonstrated their chocolate dipped frozen bananas and plan to offer them using toppings as an add on. We sampled their produc t and they were tasty though quite messy. The store bought chocolate is melted in a large crock pot and the pre-frozen bananas are then dipped in the chocolate and offered to the customer. They are aware that the food approval is part of a 3 step process and are planning to submit a final design for a cart. Then we can move on to the other steps concerning health certificates, licensing and such.

  1. Pier Managers Report: 1.On 3/24/11 Spiderman got arrested, it had nothing to do with anything on the pier. Robert (Silverman) got into a fight off the pier and the police officer arrested him on the pier. 2. Boston Ray was warned about his drinking. 3. On 4/1/11 Jeffrey got bite by Bushman’s dog. Jeffrey wrote a grievance. I told Bushman not to bring his dog to sunset or find a sitter. 4. During Foolsfest Burt gear was stolen from his bag. 5. Lucas Christopher Enos trespassed for stealing a Machete of Jace, which was found in garbage can. Bert was upset because I didn’t move the police officer from his area. 6. Sarong Lady Joanne Deck was asked to leave because her product was not handcrafted. Eddy and Jeffrey checked her product out. Motion to accept by Don, 2nd by Christine.
