The meeting was called to order at 10:00 a.m. We had two applicants, two people who wanted
information, and one add-a-product. We also have one applicant from last year via mail to
discuss.
We informed the two people of our web site and gave them verbal
information about setting up and qualifying to work at Mallory Square.
The first applicant was Tim and Kim Camden. They want to sell fish tacos and Nachos. They were
given information about their license from DBPR and cart size. They brought a sample of their steak nachos which
we all enjoyed very much. They have been
approved for their product by a unanimous vote. They
will be advised to get their cart and have it in compliance with our space allocation and
have DBPR license it. After that is complete
we will have them bring the cart to PC for inspection and if it is in compliance they will
be allowed to begin selling their products. Paid
$20.00 cash jury fee.
The second applicant was Irine and Mike Pobor. They have applied to make a variety of items,
painted eggs, wood carvings, t-shirts, postcards, Book, and nesting dolls. A $20.00 jury fee was paid in cash. After a lengthy
discussion by PC it was decided that they will be allowed to do the following:
1.
Sell their book, written by them with their illustrations in it.
2.
Sell their wooden nesting dolls with the following restrictions: Since some of them look like the typical Russian
nesting dolls it was decided that they must paint them in a tropical design, such as
Southern Most Point, Boats, Conch train, etc. We
will not accept the traditional Russian style of dolls.
3.
The wood carving was not demonstrated, only a sample was shown. Mike L. and Hector L. will home jury them for
this product.
4.
The T-Shirts were denied and the post cards were denied.
5.
The hand painted and decorated eggs were approved.
The add-a-product was for Mark McDuffee. He wants to cast wall hangings in the designs of
his candles. He makes the mold, adds the sand
with resin to hold the sand together and adds a hanger on the back. He was approved unanimously.
The application from last year for Brenda Shafer was discussed. The applicant applied for a 7 day pass last year
but the PC decided not to continue with the 7 day passes.
They advised her that she would be juried just as a regular applicant would. She sent pictures of her work (flip flops with
sewn on adornment). She will only be here for
a short time and wanted to sell while she is in Key West.
She was advised that she would have to get a Florida Tax number before she
begins selling at Mallory. Everyone voted to
approve her for her sandals pending her demonstrating them to us at the pier. She sent in
a $5.00 application fee last year and will pay the remaining $15.00 prior to setting up.
The PC was given the packet from the Marc House to review. Attached to it were the notes from the Board after
they had reviewed it. After deciding that
they want to set up a retail store at Mallory for the products it was decided that we can
not allow this. All items must be hand made
and sold by the person making them. We can
not allow an exception to this. Our
guidelines allow for charities to set up and sell six times a year only. Therefore, the PC recommends that the application
as submitted be denied.
Barb
W. collected $40.00 in jury fees and will turn them over to the pier manager and get a
receipt for them.
