Participation Committee Meeting - Minutes

October 5^th, 2008

Attending: Susanne, Jason, Ron, Hector, Meike

Juried were the following:

1. Dana Powell: Aromatherapy diffusers. Accepted 5:0.

2. Cody Young: Conch shell oil lamps, accepted 5:0, was told to come back with his other item (starfish candle holders) with more work on it (at least 3 design elements were requested by PC).

3. Crystal Buffo: Soaps.Accepted 5:0.

4. Marty North: add-on. Belts from stoneware beads. Accepted 5:0.

5. Tom Spaulding: Silver jewelry. Accepted pending home jury by Ron and Hector 4:1. He was accepted even though the jewelry cap is back on since October 1^st because he had scheduled to jury on August 18^th – a meeting that didn’t take place due to Hurricane Ike.

6. Annie Summers: add-on. Photography. Previously applied on August 4^th, was not able to show product before now. Accepted 5:0, she will sell it together with her line of jewelry, with emphasis that proceeds from photos will pay for cat food.

Discussion:

The only discussion was about the partnership from 2 meetings ago. There has not been a board meeting since and PC will bring the issue to this board meeting. PC feels that a decision was rushed into without considering all factors. The PC was told to develop a new guideline that prevents partnerships that are not necessary for the item’s creation. However, the PC feels that the current guidelines already explicitly prohibit those partnerships and that no new guideline is needed. The PC takes their decisions very carefully by basing them on the guidelines, opposes the decision taken by the board and is asking the board to reconsider the issue.

$80 in jury fees were collected.
