Participation Committee Meeting - Minutes

November 17th, 2008

Attending: Susanne, Jason, Vicky, Ron, Pam, Sara, Hector, Meike

Juried were the following:

  1. Shirley Mosca and Faith Griffin, partner: beaded and fused glass accessories, no jewelry (necklaces, anklets, bracelets, earrings). Accepted 8:0.

  2. Justin Riley: Coconut candles. Pending. Will come back at next meeting with 3 elements of design on each item.

  3. Lee Anne McCarthy: Photographs in lobster trap frames and lobster trap sings. Accepted pending home jury for lobster trap frames and signs. Not accepted for postcards. 7:1 abstaining.

  4. Terry Schmida: Books, True Crime Stories of Key West and the Florida Keys, Vol. 1 and 2. Accepted 8:0

  5. Trinidad Joe: Book, Santa’s Key West Vacation. Accepted 8:0.

  6. Mia Merryweather Rubinstein: Amber. Not accepted 7:1 abstaining.

  7. John Vretta: Pasta with Sauces. Accepted 6:2 abstaining.

Discussion:

The artist exchange program was discussed. We are currently waiting on response from the Artist Market in Austin, TX. It was proposed that we take a look at other markets’ rules and regulations in order to make ours better.

The partnership issue was discussed again. George Gonzalez wants to add Don Guess as a partner for selling his sponges. The PC is referring the issue to the Board.

The recent Board decision regarding Myles and Teri’s partnership was discussed. We need to be aware of the fact that we only are allowed to operate if we are a strictly handcrafted artist market. The fact that we need to enforce our rules is not a matter of anybody’s vision of what the Sunset Celebration should become but a matter of our very existence.

$140 in application fees was collected.
