Participation Committee Minutes

Meeting of March 1, 2010

Attending:Barb W. Susan J., Melanie G., Ron A., Fran D., Trish P, Leeanne M.

We juried seven applicants today. Four of which have been to previous meetings.

  1. Arlene Peters was accepted by unanimous vote for her handmade aprons and bags for bags. Her dichroic earrings were not approved. Arlene returned to the PC today with her sewing machine to demonstrate how she makes her products. She paid at the 2-15-10 meeting
  2. Chris Page was juried for digital photography. He was discussed at length and it was determined that his work was not unique enough. He was not approved by a 6 against and 1 in favor vote. $20.00 cash collected.
  3. Dominique (Catman) came to PC with the items he will be selling at Mallory. He will sell T-Shirts that are silk screened and a Black and White Poster that kids can color. No fee was collected as it is not required.
  4. David Goodfellow was returning from two weeks ago with the drink called "Kava". All members had a sample (except Barb). After discussions it was decided that this was made only by buying the ground root and brewing it just as you would a tea. We determined that it was not changed enough to qualify for approval. He was denied by unanimous vote. He paid at the 2-15-10 meeting.
  5. Sal DiCanto applied for photography. He uses a camera that actually uses film. He does panoramic shots as well and regular photos. He was advised he had to matte his photos, if using commercial mats he must do some hand work on them. If he frames them he must make the frames or paint them. He was approved by a 5 in favor and t2 against vote. $20.00 fee collected.
  6. Kim Most & Jenifer Eichenla juried as partners on 2-15-10. They returned together to demonstrate how they make the capes to the committee. They paid at the 2-15-10 meeting. They were approved by a 6 in favor to 1 against vote.
  7. Paulina Jara returned to jury her painted wood products. She applied to the previous PC and paid her fee to them. She was denied by a 6 against and 1 in favor vote.

The PC discussed "over representation of products". It was decided that Barb would pose the questions "are we (PC) allowed to decline jurying products that we feel are over represented on the pier?"

The PC is giving a letter to Elise Scott telling her she is not allowed to sell the "neck rings" she has on her table. She is allowed to put a pendant on it and include it with the sale of her merchandise. It has been noted by at least two people on the pier seeing her selling the item by itself.

The PC discussed giving a letter to a participant and advising them that we are going to re-jury their product. It has been reported to PC that the product is not being made by the participant.

The PC is also discussing how to enforce the "exact duplicate" rule that has been added to our Standard Operating Procedures. We will continue the discussion at the next meeting.

We adjourned the meeting at 12:30 p.m.
