We had 6 people to work with. Two add a products, one second jury attempt, one continuation from a pending jury last PC, and 2 new applicants.
Janelle Mourger juried in for “POP TOP” constructed dog collars. She wanted to jury in for jewelry, but was informed that there is currently a cap on jewelry. She uses recycled aluminum pop tops and threads them with colorful leather or stretchy cored and adds a charm for a stretchy dog collar. Twenty dollar jury fee was collected. She was approved by unanimous vote.
Linda Sergeant wanted to jury in for shell pendants. She was informed of the cap on jewelry and that her pre-jury fee and information had already been mailed back to her. She would like to come up with another idea and re-jury at that time. No fee was collected.
Kevin Elbe juried for the second time using his oyster shell and pearl combination to string together with other purchased shells and crystals for a key chain or zipper pull. He initially wanted to jury in for jewelry. After being told of the cap, he put a piece on a key ring. He has also printed out some cards and display information regarding the pearls he is using. The committee discussed this at length and determined that a variation of this piece was readily available and didn’t show enough originality and creativity to warrant acceptance. The printed matter might be a positive addition to his selling, but wasn’t deemed as something covered in the jury process. Jury fee had been collected at the last PC meeting. Rejected by a vote of 3 against, 1 in favor and one abstain.
Pattie Cantalini juried for handmade purses. Jury fee had been collected at the last PC meeting. She had returned this week to show us how she makes a purse from beginning to end. She brought her sewing machine and made a beautiful purse with beaded accent on the front and a zippered closure. She was approved by unanimous vote.
Dana Powell came with an add-a-product, bottle cap novelty for sun catchers, wine bottles, or pulls. She fills a bottle cap with pieces of mirrored glass and puts on n eye hook to fasten to pulls and sun catchers. She was approved unanimously, with the condition that she not market them as jewelry or pendant pieces.
Trish Pleasant wanted to add on miniature pieces of her copper turtles and other pieces as pendant pieces. She is already juried in for jewelry, so her product was unanimously approved.
We also discussed the advisability of interviewing applicants as separately as possible to prevent “bleed through” informational problems. We decided to separate applicants as much as possible and to deal with conflict matters after the new applicants have juried in. This will be SOP in the future.
We also discussed the on pier inspection done by LeeAnne McCarthy, Eddie Wolford, and Melanie Griffith on the previous week. One artist was found with jewelry pieces on his table that were not juried in. Since then, he has not displayed these. It was voted to give him a gentle verbal reminder to comply with the rules. I, Fran Doll will do this at Sunset.
The meeting adjourned at 11:30 a.m.
