P C Meeting
May 3, 2010
Present: Barb Winko, Fran Doll, Melanie Griffith, Trish Pleasant, LeeAnne McCarthy and Ron Augustine
PC received a letter on May 2, 2010 from Susan Johnson resigning from the PC Committee. The committee will ask the Board of Directors to designate Ed Wolford as the new PC member.
We juried five new applicants and two add products today.
Mike Darras applied for Mixed media folk are on wood and limited edition prints. His work was very nice but the PC had a problem with him using art work from other sources. The PC voted he be approved, advising him that he cannot use any art work other than his own. No decoupage work with clip art, others pictures, etc. He was also advised that all prints must have hand cut mats or he must embellish the mats in some way with his own art work. He was passed by unanimous vote. A $20.00 fee was collected.
Adriana Santiago applied for Vinyl records that she spray paints and decorates by hand. The can be used as sun catchers or art work. They will be sold with a string for hanging. Adriana also juried for fan pulls made from vinyl records and other objects. She also requested to sell jewelry made in the same style. Adriana was accepted for her vinyl records and fan pulls. All fan pulls must have parts of the vinyl records incorporated into them and she may use other items, such as beads as long as they are used with the vinyl record material. All of her jewelry items were denied. Passed by a 5-1 vote. A $20.00 fee was collected.
Gary Hanes applied for jewelry. He was advised prior to the jury process that the jewelry category was closed, but he wanted to jury and demonstrate for us anyway. He makes pins, rings, bracelets and necklaces from wire. The all incorporate a person’s name in them. For the rings he uses jeweler’s saws for carving the names. His items were very nice but the committee felt that we could not let him on due to the category being closed. He was denied by a 6-0 vote. A $20.00 fee was collected.
Jonathan King applied for nautical art. He does free hand sketches and then uses water colors to colorize the sketches. He makes post card size originals as well. He also juried for small boats, etc. made from seeds. He then paints them and adds sails. He wants to sell prints of his sketches and was told that all prints must have hand cut mats or he must sketch on the pre-made mats with his own art work. He was accepted by a 6-0 vote. A $20.00 fee was collected.
Kimbi Ayers applied for whimsical watercolor art, mermaids, wildlife, fish, etc. All of her art work will be originals. She was accepted by a 6-0 vote. A $20.00 fee was collected.
Tammy Frank applied for an add a product. She currently sells hand embellished t-shirts and would like to add glassware that she embellishes with sea shells and dried sea life. The committee did not think that these items were creative enough and to readily available in the community. She was denied by a 6-0 vote. No fee was collected for an add a product.
Meike Godoy applied for an add a product. Meike sells handmade jewelry already and wanted to add a new type of jewelry. She makes necklaces, etc. out of different mediums (round tubing, square tubing, pvc pipe, etc.) and fill them with various colors of fimo clay. She was approved by a 6-0 vote. No fee was collected for an add a product.
The PC discussed and voted on the following issues:
We discussed at length on whether or not we need to close the jewelry due to over representation on the pier for the remainder of the year. This would mean not letting any type of jewelry on at all. This does not affect current participants who already make jewelry from adding to their product line. We currently have 32 people actively selling jewelry at Mallory. A motion was made, seconded and passed by a 4-2 vote to close jewelry.
The PC discussed (Capt. Frank Piku) the donut man. It was decided that we will re-jury him since we actually have no paper stating that he was approved for his donut product, only for the toppings. We will ask him if the PC can come to his place tomorrow morning at 10:00 a.m. to re-jury him.
LeeAnne and Ed Wolford walked the pier around two weeks ago and checked the following tables:
Victor Salas, Nicholas Bergay, Eddy Wolford & Pearl Jolly, Ryan Stimers, Isais Mendez, Gloria Cardenas, Javier Dias, Johnathan Craft, Elise Scott, Mrs. Dickstein (conch salad food cart) and Jason Prouspin 9(glass blower). Only one violation was found. Jason had jewelry items on his table. He left town before he could be given a letter from the PC stating that he was not juried for these items. This will serve as his first violation and when he returns to town he will be advised and given a letter.
We had two jury by mail. The first one from Gregory Tolpin who wishes to do a food cart. We were duly impressed and will invite him down to jury at the next meeting. He sent a $5.00 pre jury fee and this has been turned in along with the $100.00 cash we collected today.
The second one from Shelli Kaiser wanting to do a type of pretzel. We advised her we do not duplicate products and we already have one person doing pretzels. Her five dollar pre-jury fee will be deposited along with the other monies.
A total of $110.00 was turned in to the Pier Manager on 5-3-2010 by Barb. Receipt attached.
