P C Committee Meeting

Special Meeting at Sunset

We held a special meeting to discuss our findings on the Pier Walks that have been done to date.

We had several issues to discuss:

  1. We discussed Gilcee prints. Since our SOP’s do not discuss this particular type of photograph we thought we should find a solution to the problem that had been found by the committee. Since this is a photograph that is printed on a canvas, it looks like a painting. It is relatively new to Sunset and we just have a few participants doing this type of printing. The committee decided this type of photograph is not meant to be matted like a regular photograph. We decided we would consider this a framed photograph since the artist does the printing and also the stretching of the canvas over the frame work that is in the back of the photo. We will ask the Board for their input on our decision.
  2. We discussed the photographers who are not matting their pictures. Our rules state all must be matted with mats cut by the artist, or frames made by the artist. If they do not cut their own mats or make their own frames they must paint the frames or do some kind of handwork on their mats. We will be sending letters to those that are not following this rule.
  3. We discussed the rule pertaining to artists that sell prints of their original work. Our rule states that the artist must display some original art work along with their prints. Many of the artists are not doing this. We will be sending letters to those that are not in compliance.
  4. It was brought to our attention that Harriet Vaughn asked if she drew and colored around her pictures if this would be considered matting. The committee does not think this will qualify and will inform her of this. All photographs must have a mat or a frame that the participant has worked on. Harriett also has magnets on her tables and I cannot find where she was juried for these. We should ask her if she was juried, and if not, tell her to come to the next PC meeting and get juried. She must remove them from her table until that time.
  5. We discussed various people coming to us with trivial complaints. We have decided that if anyone has a complaint regarding items on someone’s table, they must fill out a complaint form. If we receive a few verbal complaints from various people stating the same thing we will investigate the matter and then decide what action to take.
  6. We would like to ask the Board to have the Pier Managers require all food participants to furnish a copy of their State License for a Mobile Food Cart each year to be kept in the records along with the State of Florida Sales Tax ID forms.
  7. We have received some complaints that performers that use visitors in the act do not have insurance. We will pass this along to the Board.
  8. We have come up with a simple hand out to be given to all new food participants. (See attached). We will run this by the Board. We would also like the Board to address the problem with participants sitting outside of their space and changing the flow of the visitors on the pier.
  9. We discussed Beth selling fused glass. We did not have enough time to make a decision but will discuss it at the next PC meeting. (paperwork attached)
  10. During a walk the pc members noticed that Isaac and Davmar have magnets on their table. I cannot find anything indicating that they have been juried for these. We should ask them if they have been juried, if not, ask them to remove them from the table and come to the next PC meeting.
  11. We discussed Hector Godoy not being recognized in our book as having been approved for his shells with names on them. The PC voted yes but was overturned by the Board. After Miles formed a partnership with Terri Strickland Hector returned to PC and the Board and was approved to sell any type of shells with anything he wanted on them, including names and designs as long as he did them himself I added this to our list so it would not be questioned again. (paperwork attached)
  12. It was brought to my attention that Yuri Vakselis was not on our list. I researched this and found his application. I added him to the list with all he was juried and approved for. The one question is if he was juried and approved for T-Shirts. Let’s discuss this. (paperwork attached)
  13. Gloria Cardenas has dichroic jewelry on her table. She is not juried for dichroic glass. We need to discuss how we are going to handle this as there are many participants now using this in their work. Was there a complaint on this from someone?
  14. We have the following participants that we need to discuss sending letters to:

I will bring copies of the "generic" letters we will use when sending out anything for no
