Participation Committee Meeting

June 21, 2010

Present: Barb W., Ed W., Melanie G., Trish P., Jan N.

Excused: Ron A., Leeanne M.

We juried in three new applicants, three add a products and one jury by mail

Rick Dostal was juried for his metal sculpture. He designs and cuts his products from steel. He was home juried by Barb, Melanie and Trish. After watching him cut and weld his product, he produced a sterling silver locket as part of his “metal sculpture”. Trish advised him that the jewelry was closed and he could not sell any type of jewelry at Mallory Square. He was approved by unanimous vote. $20.00 check fee was collected.

Melanie Marsh applied for bicycle seat covers. She makes these from terry cloth and oil cloth. Her brand name is Bike Bums. She was home juried by Jan and Eddie. She was approved by unanimous vote. $20.00 cash fee was collected.

Carolina Dawson applied for Photography. She showed us her photographs and she was advised that she had to cut her own mattes or she could do some hand embellishment on them. She was advised that she could also frame them but she must either make the frames or do hand embellishment on them. The PC asked her to provide us with a CD of some of her photographs for the PC to view. All members voted to approve her after we view the CD to make sure they are her work. $20.00 cash fee was collected.

Sherry Tewell applied for a stuffed animal made to go with her book that she was previously juried for. The stuffed product would resemble a cat and have an outline silk screened on the front. The back would have a pocket with Crayons and information included in the pocket. The children would be able to color and decorate the item. The problem the PC has with this item is she does not do the sewing or the silk screening of the product. It is her design and idea but is mass produced by other people. She was turned down by unanimous vote. No fee was collected as this was an add a product.

Mike and Beth Darras juried in to be partners and to make wooden signs that are hand painted in various styles with cute sayings on them. They have holes drilled in them and rope is added for the item to be hung. No fee was collected as this was an add a product. (Mike was told he would revert back to day one for his day count since he is adding a partner. A note from PC will inform the Pier Manager.)

Tammy Frank returned with her glass items she wishes to sell. She has done painting on them as well as adding sea shells. She also juried for painting on glass for suncatchers, painting on raw tiles to be used a coasters, starfish painted and adorned with sea shells to use as a picture holder, forks that are adorned with wire, beads and shells to be used along with her stemware as an olive fork. She was approved by unanimous vote. No fee was collected as this was an add a product.

Sue Handman sent us an application by mail to be juried for her fabric collages for fashionable tops, pillows, messenger bags, and cards. All of her work is done using a photo transfer method using other peoples photos and art work. She was denied by unanimous vote. $5.00 jury by mail check was received.

A total of $65.00 was collected and turned in to the pier manager. The receipt is attached to these minutes.
