PC Minutes from 11-7-11 meeting

There were six members in attendance-jeffrey, Eddy, Ron, Dragana, Harriet and Melanie.

There were 7 new applications and one add on.

  1. Jimmy Brogdan was approved to add on a jewelry item that is angels made from various pieces of metal and stones or glass glued together to form angels of various sizes that have pins attached to the backs.

  2. Tayler Bryan was approved for her illustrations in watercolor as well as original paintings, books(childrens and teenagers) that she both wrote and illustrated. She was also approved for her small clay figurines as well as wood burning on pre made boxes or plaques. She has an enormous amount of stuff and we feel her talent would be a great addition to the pier.

  3. Barbara DeGafferelly was approved for her hand woven handbags, aprons, and Bali bowls. The bags are woven on a loom and then sewn together, the Bali Bowls are unique and the fabric is sewn over a rope coil then the finished clothed rope is coiled much like a clay pot and rolled to form bowls of various sizes which are multi useful and collapsible. Barbara was previously on the pier with her handbags, but had been gone for over three years.

  4. Conrad Van Wyk was approved for his pencil and ink drawings which he does either live or from photos. They are very detailed and serious, not caricatures. He also does watercolor paintings, but would need to add on those as he was not prepared to paint one for us this day.

  5. James Van Dezor was disapproved for his pendulum readings. We feel that his yes/ no questions answered by the pendulums swinginfg was not something for our pier and there were some other issues about selling those products which led us to believe that he would be better se3rved elsewhere.

  6. Laura Dressler was approved for her sand art. She glues the sand in layers after burning the outline of her subject into a Royal palm sheath(?). She then adds many layers and uses different color sands to create some unique and unusual pieces that are sometimes framed in bamboo or not. They are very time consuming and she gets paid quite a bit for each piece so we wish her success and welcome her talent to our pier.

  7. Deborah Moore was approved for her watercolor paintings of scenes and or architecture from around town mainly. Her work has been on display and sold at a number of galleries around town and she currently displays at Island Arts Gallery

  8. Chris Craig was tabled for further discussion for his airbrush art. Because he would like to do the airbrushing on site as well as elsewhere. So we need input from the board on this. Some issues came up about the spraying, noise, crowds, etc. However, we all agree that we would like to see something work for this guy and see it actually benefit all of us, at least as far as attracting people and keeping tourists interests on the pier. So we think that perhaps he could be a performer spot that sells his work (airbrushed t-shirts, clothing etc.) That way he could be assigned a spot as a performer selling, pay the fee and be privy to the rules of the performers’ lottery and crowd control.

Lastly there was some discussion about some clarification that needs to be made in the sop’s regarding the cap rules, and counts, and more. Eddy will be typing up a list of questions for clarification. Also we need a list of grandfathered participants. We would also suggest that the board request that PC do what should have been done last year when the cap rule was voted in and that is to compile an active, current list of participants in each category for the caps. This list should be presented to the next PC committee so that they can adequately do their job within the new confines. All this needs to be completed in finish form prior to the new year.

Thank you for your time and consideration,

Jeffrey Kaplan
