Participation Committee Meeting Minutes

October 19, 2015

Members Present:

Ryan Stimers, LeeAnne McCarthy, Linda McCall, Ron Augustine, Deb Graffeo.  Hector Godoy absent.

Meeting commenced 10:00 a.m.

Carrie Andrews, Watercolor with pen and ink.  Demonstrated rough sketch, illustration details and color process.  Will sell originals and prints.  Matting requirements discussed with Carrie.

PC Vote:  YES

Stephen Flowers, add-on (currently painted interior of coconuts):    Steve would like to sell paint your own coconut kits.  He designed the label, and manually prepared the coconut half in each kit.  Kit also contains a purchased paint palette, tubes of acrylics and a few paint brushes.  It also contains a mini “pamphlet” with tips on painting the prepared coconut but no real direction.   Discussion by PC on product.  On one hand, it’s a great way to promote artistic endeavors.  However, unlike previous products that encourage this (Debbie Peterson’s coloring pages for example), he is only supplying materials, no prepared design to follow.  As is, it’s a commercial product.  Dissection/extensive discussion by PC.  While PC feels this is an “inventive” product, there is no artistic merit to it without an included drawn diagram on the coconut.  Without this drawn diagram, any kit prepared by a jewelry maker for example could be sold.  A jewelry maker could put beads and a chain in a “kit” with vague instruction and sell it at a great mark up without putting any artistic effort into the kit.

PC Vote:  No as presented.  If Steve adds a drawn diagram on the included coconut, it would be approved.

Renee Moss, add-on/clarification:   Renee is approved for jewelry.  One of her demonstrated products included fused glass.  She wanted to be “above board” and demonstrate that she makes the fused glass she demo’d in her wire wrap jewelry.  Home jury to follow this PC meeting by LeeAnne and Linda.

PC Vote:  Yes, pending jury.  LeeAnne and Linda satisfactorily reviewed her work space, materials, process and completed work.

Josh Furman, add-on food product:  Josh asked for a home jury to show preparation of new cocktail sauce that will be used with his ceviche and oysters.  LeeAnne and Linda will home jury after PC meeting.

PC Vote:   Approved by PC pending home jury outcome.  LeeAnne and Linda watched and sampled the preparation.  Satisfactory demonstration.

Change of Jury Dates (temporary):  Discussion on offering a Saturday jury in order to maybe make it easier for people to apply.  PC is only required to meet twice a month, with no set day outlined in our SOPs.  Discussion by committee and all present agreed to a temporary trial for November and December.  First Saturday jury would be November 7.  The second jury of the month would continue to be on the 3rd Monday.  PC would like to ask Dave to change the website on a temporary basis.

Meeting adjourned 11:00 a.m.
